Overview

A little tenderness after getting braces fitted or adjusted is completely normal — and there’s plenty you can do to ease it.

The soreness usually shows up in the first day or two and fades within a few days as your teeth adjust. Soft foods — soup, pasta, yoghurt, smoothies — take the pressure off while you settle in. A cold drink or ice block can numb the ache, and over-the-counter pain relief works well if you need it.

If a wire or bracket is rubbing, the orthodontic wax we provide creates a smooth barrier to protect your cheeks and lips. Rinsing with warm salty water can soothe any irritated spots.

If discomfort is severe, doesn’t settle, or something feels broken, give us a call — we’re always happy to help.
