Overview

There’s no single right age to see an orthodontist — the best time depends on what’s going on and how old you are.

We recommend children have their first orthodontic assessment around age 7–8. At this age enough adult teeth have come through for us to spot developing issues, while there’s still plenty of growth left to guide. Most won’t need treatment yet, but early assessment means nothing gets missed.

Teenagers are in the ideal window for comprehensive treatment, once most adult teeth are in place. And it’s never too late as an adult — healthy teeth can be moved at any age, so if you’ve always wanted to address your smile, it’s worth a conversation.

If you notice crowding, gaps, a bite that doesn’t meet evenly, or difficulty cleaning the teeth, that’s a good prompt to book an assessment.
