We recommend every child has their first orthodontic assessment around age 7 — even though most won’t need treatment yet.
By age 7 enough adult teeth have usually come through for us to see how the bite and jaw are developing, while there’s still plenty of natural growth left to guide if needed. Spotting a developing issue early gives us the widest range of gentle options — and often means simpler treatment, or none at all, later on.
That doesn’t mean braces at seven. For most children the assessment simply gives peace of mind and a plan to monitor growth. For a few, a short course of early treatment can steer things in the right direction at exactly the right time.
If your child’s dentist has suggested an orthodontic opinion, or you’ve noticed crowding, a thumb-sucking habit, or teeth that don’t meet evenly, it’s a good time to book.
