Why retainers matter

Retainers hold your teeth in their new position once active treatment finishes — they’re what makes your result last.

Teeth have a natural tendency to drift back towards where they started, especially in the months right after braces come off. A retainer gently holds everything in place while the surrounding bone settles around the new alignment.

We offer both removable retainers, which you take out to eat and clean, and fixed retainers — a thin wire bonded discreetly behind the teeth. We’ll recommend the option that best protects your result.

Wear & maintenance

Looking after your retainer keeps your smile looking its best for life.

Wear your retainer exactly as instructed — usually full-time at first, then gradually moving to nights only. Clean it daily with a soft brush and cool water, and always store it in its case when it’s out (never wrapped in a napkin).

If a retainer is lost or broken, get in touch straight away so we can replace it before your teeth have a chance to move.
